An apprenticeship is a training program that combines paid,
on-the-job work experience with classroom instruction. Apprenticeships are
offered in many areas. Apprenticeships often last four years. An apprentice
will be supervised on the job by a skilled journey person. They will also
attend day school for four hours each week or eight hours every other week, and
continue to receive their normal salary during that time. An apprentice will
usually start at 40%-60% of the salary paid to a journey person in that
specific trade. Wages normally increase approximately every six months.
Apprenticeship programs are a great way to earn while you learn.
